Snorkel McCorkle and the Lost Flipper Book Release

On May 18th, the book Snorkel McCorkle and the Lost Flipper hit e-shelves on Apple Books. However, this book is not your typical read. Throughout the book, there are songs that can be played that describe the adventures of Snorkel McCorkle and her buddies. Katherine Archer, a local musician-songwriter, wrote and sang some of the songs attached to the book.

The middle-reader book stars Snorkel McCorkle, a lovable ten-year-old girl and eco-warrior that takes readers on an adventure through Vilano Beach. From school bullies to the endangered environment to the loss of her mother, McCorkle tackles real-life issues. However, these issues do not hold her back, and she always works to put her best flipper forward.

The story was inspired by Archer gaining the nickname of Snorkel McCorkle by a few of her friends in New York. They drew up a character, and soon enough had the basis for a story. After gaining a love for writing children’s music in the 90’s, Archer was inspired to write the music for Snorkel’s character. All the main characters of the book - Snorkel, Matilda the manatee, and Figaro the opera-singing pelican - have theme songs to describe their personalities. The characters are also voiced by other St. Augustine- famous singers like Duffy Bishop and Chris Carlson. All of the songs are also available on reverbnation.com under the name Snorkel McCorkle. Archer then took the songs to her friend Linda Thornbug, who turned the songs and illustrations into a children’s book.

The book can be bought on Apple Books for $7.99. They hope to get the book into more platforms and possibly a movie later down the road. For now, though, Snorkel is fixing the unfixable in her life, and inspiring children (and adults) everywhere to rise above the challenges they may be facing in their lives.
