Rising from the Ashes

The nostalgic sound of Salt and Pine can’t quite be put into one single genre of music. Their blend of acoustic instrumentation with Americana and bluegrass sound embodies a familiar, intimate energy that transcends any musical category.
Born on a Narrow Magazine open mic stage in 2017, Salt and Pine jumped head first into the St. Augustine music scene. Years later, the band’s new album, “Ashes,” is their dream come true.
“It’s definitely different from the first album, and we’re very proud of it,” said Nolan Baker.
“Ashes” is the band’s first truly collaborative album in that they produced most of it themselves. However, the album was crafted in several different studios, including Gatorbone Studios, Toes in the Sand Recording Studio, and Fish Tank Recordings. The band also gives huge props to the talented Nate Kontra, who mixed and mastered all of the songs on the album.
Salt and Pine’s killer songwriting abilities allow them to truly connect with listeners and relate to people on a personal level through the power of music.
Nolan said, “We just have a good time singing together.”
What’s unique about this genre-bending band is that since they are acoustic-driven, most of the up-beat percussion in their songs comes from the mandolin, played by bandmate Matthew Kirkland. Vocalist Haley Thompson said, “Our music is generally very positive and happy.”
Keep an eye out for the new album “Ashes” to be released in April. It features nine beautifully written songs that give you the familiar, tender sound that this group is known for. Fans can listen to and purchase the new album on the Salt and Pine website.
When asked what they hope their listeners enjoy about their album, Nolan said, “We come from the heart with a lot of these songs, and the music itself hopefully makes you feel good.”
